Last saturday i upgraded one Domino Server with a lot of enterprise applications from 7.0.3 to 8.5.1 FP3 IF1,. The server is very critical for my client business.
Everthing works fine until we start to test several applications. We detect a problem with ODBC connections to MS SQLServer databases (DB2 works fine).
Domino can’t “see” the DSN’s and we can see a lot of connections erros, after some hours of investigation we found the problem.
The Domino server isn’t the 64 version but we are using Windows 2008 64.
When you register a DSN datasource using the icon on the control panel the DSN, a system DSN is only visible for 64 bit process (see this TN from MS Knowledge base).
Following the “workaround” section of the MS TN, the applications work’s well.
“To work around this problem, use the appropriate version of the ODBC Administrator tool. If you build and then run an application as a 32-bit application on a 64-bit operating system, you must create the ODBC data source by using the ODBC Administrator tool in %windir%SysWOW64odbcad32.exe. To indicate the type of DSN, you can add “_32” to the 32-bit user DSNs and “_64” to the 64-bit user DSNs ”
Thank’s to our friend MS SQL Server DBA.
Reading something about LDAP and i found this redbook:
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/SG244986/wwhelp/wwhimpl/java/html/wwhelp.htm
And this definition:
When deciding on suffixes, where a suffix is the root DN of a directory tree, it is a good idea to use the same naming structure for LDAP as is used for X.500. Using the X.500 methodology would lead to choosing a suffix like o=ibm,c=us or ou=raleigh,o=ibm.
This method will set the root of the directory tree to a specific organization in a specific country or to a specific organization and organizational unit. However, it is not necessary to do this, unless there are plans to participate in an X.500 directory service, since LDAP does not require any specific format for the DN naming convention. In LDAP, the directory suffix can be chosen freely to reflect the organizations distinct name. Another method that you can use, if the X.500 method does not seem appropriate, is the DNS naming model when choosing the directory suffix. This would result in a suffix using the domainComponent attribute, for example, dc=server,dc=company,dc=com.
Today i’m cleaning my Inbox as usual but a error message appears when i achive some mail
Is not an error. Notes is alerting that he need the message on my mailbox
I think the right instead of a error message (Notes error), were a warning message (Warning).
In this case, the messages are marked with a flag.
Last week we started another new setup of Domino 8.5 and Sametime 8.5 (small company with 12 users).
Now a long history.
We setup Domino 8.5.1 and Sametime 8.5 as usual. Domino works great but Sametime 8.5 not. The users try to logon using sametime client but nothing happens.
The sametime client can’t connect to the server. The STPresenceSubscriptionMgr sevice doesn’t start.
I try everything i Know, and check everything about Windows.
We reinstall all the environment and nothing. We setup another windows machine and it works.
I open an PMR and IBM told us that the problem was with Windows
Paulo, an engineer who works with me, found this post without a response, and today we have the answer
You have this line on Sametime.ini
[STPresenceSubscriptionsMgr]
STPresenceSubscriptionsMgr_VM_ARGS=-Xmx1024m -Xgcpolicy:gencon -Xcompactgc
Changed to:
[STPresenceSubscriptionsMgr]
STPresenceSubscriptionsMgr_VM_ARGS=-Xmx768m -Xgcpolicy:gencon -Xcompactgc
Everything works
The problem only happens with Windows 2003 R2 with 4GB RAM. I’m reopening the PMR to know why.
Last week we made a plan to fight against spam. We choose Lotus Protector as our solution.
After 4 hours the VM Protector was working, and after 7 days he blocked a lot of spam.
Our email traffic is not large but the users can see the difference when they open the inbox for the first time. We also setup the integration with Notes 8.5.1
Notes integration
This TN show a list of Fix Packs.
Router does not failover properly to secondary DNS server when primary server is down
When issuing the “Tell Router Show” command at the server console, several destinations will show a message such as “Server Not Responding”. Other destinations might show the message “Waiting for DNS”.

It is a common situation and when the account is removed from Domino Directory bad things cam appear, like this message:
[27718:00265-4009925536] 05/05/2010 11:39:10 AM Policies and settings documents signed by XYZ/Acme are no longer valid because this person does not have the required access level or roles to the Domino Directory.
It is about Policies and you solve the problem with this:
In the Policies (or Settings) view, check all policies you want to resign then choosed ‘Actions -> Resign Policy’
